I would like to learn to speak fluent Spanish quickly. What programs have you known to work effectively?

What tips or advice can you give me and what have you tried that actually worked?

Being able to speak a language fluently takes time but if you are really driven to learn then maybe you’ll be able to speak a language fluently in 6months to a year…

These are just some tips i can give you..<:

-read books and listen to speeches, more like continually HEARING and READING the language..
if you are just starting to learn the language you can read stories and books written for children, or books with CDs on learning the language.. (what i did with the CD i downloaded the contents to my iPOD so i can listen to it whenever i’m on the road or if i am not doing something)

-communicate with friends who speak the language, but if you are not near anyone who speaks spanish you can go over the internet and communicate with Spanish speakers.. so you can use what you’ve learned from the books..

-have a Spanish-English Dictionary and English-Spanish dictionary.

-visit websites about learning spanish language…and use that as your module too..there are free accounts and premium accounts..

- you can also use other internet resources like broadcasts you can listen to, and web sites..or you can also watch movies in Spanish

-you can also enroll in classes that offers the language but for me self study and perseverance works better..

-make time to study for atleast an hour a day…

-just remember: constant correct practice..

I suggest you combine all these techniques to make your language learning more effective..<:

-or in a more expensive way, you can immerse yourself but you will still need to study on your own..<:

Spanish language learning programs in foreign countries with instruction and home stays recommended?

I’m interested in spending a week or two in a spanish speaking country and have looked into programs that offer instruction for part of the day and free time in afternoon evenings. Most offer the option to stay with a family. I am a beginner – intermediate and want to work with an organization that will place me according to my level, not just do what’s good for them to get business.

Can anyone who has had experience with this recommend a country/city, as well a particular company they did business with ? Thanks.

I have friends who went to Cuernavaca, Mexico for such a program. They took classes during the day and lived with a family. They loved their experience and want to do it again. Here is the link to the school:

What programs are out there to help to translate something from english to spanish?

I need to translate a menu, from english to spanish, i would really like to use a free program if there is one..

FreeTranslation (http://www.freetranslation.com ) works pretty well for simple phrases but could easy mix up the names of foods. I would suggest using an online dictionary which will provide you with synonyms, avoiding mix-ups in meaning.

Otherwise, post it on here. People tend to reply to translation exercises pretty quickly. And if you don’t want it to remain on the web just ask someone to translate it via email. If you want, you can email me through my profile.

Good Spanish language television programs or movies?

I need to be able to get them with either English or Spanish subtitles, preferably Spanish ones.

Any recommendations? Thank you in advance.

u can try soap oprs. in univision and telemundo or this funny shows in spanish (univision):
que locura!.
la hora pico.
la familia peluche.
la hora derbez.

What are some colleges/universities with really great Spanish language and education programs?

Preferably on the East Coast, in NY, Massachusetts, PA, and Vermont. I know Middlebury is a great school, but are there any others? Also, if you know anything about any good study abroad programs at these schools, let me know. I heard Salamanca is a great city to study in.

I’m in virtually the same boat that you are. Even though it’s not on the east coast, the University of Kansas has an outstanding spanish department, and plenty of oppurtunities for study abroad, most notably the exchange to Edinburgh, Scotland (though that doesn’t really apply to your question…). In any case, it’s a great school in a great city (Lawrence, KS), and I would go there myself for the same subject were it not for the fact that I grew up there!

What are some programs to teach Spanish without breaking bank?

Rosetta stone is like $600 and I already have Spanish Pen Pals, but I need to learn how to speak and catch up….

I found an article about Rosetta Stone and how it compared to a cheaper Spanish learning course, Rocket Spanish. I’ve copied and pasted some of it. You can read the full article at the source below…

I took Rocket Spanish for a test drive to see how effective it is in teaching Spanish. I had previously tested Rosetta Stone and found that it’s simple menu made getting straight into the learning course easy. I also liked the speech recognition software that assisted with correcting the pronunciation of the Spanish words. Overall, Rosetta Stone Spanish is a good program, so I didn’t expect a cheaper spanish course learning to be that effective.

I was wrong. Rocket Spanish may be the cheapest online spanish language program, but it over delivers in it’s quality and the amount of training resources that they provide…

There’s also a video that shows what Rocket Spanish looks like.

Here’s another well known Spanish learning course, Pimsleur

Does anyone know of any good Spanish Immersion programs?

I want to imrpove my spanish over the summer.

Concordia language Villages have total immersion summer camps for children and teens. During the school year they do weekend immersions for adults and school groups. There are language schools in Latin America where you can study at the language school and live with a host family. (Cuernavaca has one I believe.) Your local university probably has an overseas study department, and they may have information on several that you can go to without becoming a student at that university.
