Are you for or against elementary school mandatory Spanish classes?
In border states of the United States of America where there is a high population of spanish-speaking people?
Against it. English is the primary language. Catering to other languages should not be a requirement except for safety agencies.
It will be an economic necessity for the children.
I have done business in Mexico. I almost never called on an account that the people did not speak fluent English. Most of the time they would be insulted if I tried to speak to them in Spanish. I believe that would be insinuating that they were poorly educated.
When I called on accounts in West Texas, it was not uncommon to call on accounts where none of the clients spoke English.
Like it or not; Spanish is a necessity.

I am for a elementary school to have a mandatory second language class, whether it is Spanish or not doesn’t really matter is just makes the most sense. It is beneficial to be bilingual, there is even a correlation to be less likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease if one is bilingual.

Totally against it. This is America…..the language is English. If someone wants to learn another language…there’s no one that should stop them…learning is always a good thing. But to mandate learning a 2nd launguage ? This isn’t Europe. We don’t have 10 countries a hop skip and a jump away. Mexico isn’t a country Americans immigrate to. So what is the purpose ? We aren’t going to make people "Americanize" if we keep laxing our standards and catering to people to make things easier for them.
New Jersey had a program that taught people Abonics. So are we just to accept that black people just don’t have the intelligence to learn proper english ?
No matter what language or where in America…there can always be found an excuse for teaching it, but its just that… An Excuse.
We would have to learn a language enough to get around if we went to France, or Germany, or Itally. Why is it so different for Mexico ? Do you see Canadians coming to the USA and arrogantly think we should understand french ?

Not really no. I mean Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world. But I’d rather they taught Castilian Spanish(the one spoken in Spain) rather than the dumbed down Spanish spoken in the latin states.

I would support a mandatory second language class in elementary school. It’s much easier for young children to learn another language than it is for adults. Although, I wouldn’t restrict the language to Spanish.

I am also against it.For the simple fact,that when i came to the US i thought that you had to know English because i was coming to their Country.It is a joke to me .Anytime you make a Phone call you are asked if you want it in English or Spanish.Hey give it to me in German.No i am just kidding.They come to this country on their Owen will and should respect and honor this country.To me i think they don`t do either.No they want special treatment even though they came here illegally,but jet they are allowed special treatment.What is up with that?They should not have any say so what so ever.Many Americans and I were very shocked to find out that to this day English is not yet considered the National Language,when it is considered the International Language in Europe.

speaking spanish is;nt a bad idea.but to force it on our students is wrong.what happens if a student can;t learn the language do you hold him or her back because they flunk their spanish class.if you come to this country you should be expected to speak the language. not us be expected to speak your language.

i am 100% against bilingual education. if people want to come here, they learn english. period. if i was going to live in another country, i’d make damn sure i could speak the language of that country. of course, we don’t do that here anymore and look at all the trouble it causes.

Answer: All people who Live OR Work in the United States of America or Its Territories Must be required to Speak, Read and Write American English in ALL Circumstances and Situations. They Must become American Citizens within 7 months or Forced to Leave the USA and ITS Territories Immediately to Avoid a Child Conceived Can Not Become a US Citizen.
Only Children Born to US Citizens at the time of the child’s birth will be considered American Citizens. All other children are Citizens of the Country of their parents Citizenship at the time of birth and are Illegal aliens and must be removed from the US Immediately and all their relatives.
It is time to bring some common sense to citizenship status for all People living in the USA. If you are not a Citizen you should be Pursued, Arrested, Prosecuted and Expelled or Executed Your Choice.

For it no matter where the elementary school is in the U.S. Why? Common sense; this country is a nation of immigrants, we need to communicate more effectively with the largest growing population in our country.
I can just hear those people out there who don’t have a clue saying; "they should speak English, why should my kid speak Spanish"? The fact is that a vast majority of immigrants go to school everyday, after a long day at work, to spend as much as 3 hours of their time learning English. They work hard at it too. English is a very difficult language to learn.
Above and beyond that, one you pass the age of 15, your ability to learn a language begins to drop off dramatically. So having kids learn another language early on is smart. My first experience to learn another language came in Jr. High, and it was difficult even then.
Europe teaches students different languages, English being one. So we need to catch up and start making it common place to teach children another language besides English.

I feel any foreign language class should be a choice. Not everyone understands and can learn a foreign language and some kids may get bad grades in that class. I remember living overseas as a child (military brat) and I had to learn the Portuguese language when we lived in the Azores, and then when we were in England we kids had to learn French. These were not easy classes.

I don’t live in the border states, but my son is in a pre-school class where he is greatly outnumbered by the kids who speak Spanish. It’s a state run pre-school, so I can’t do a thing about it. I am not for mandatory Spanish classes. I think it’s fine when the parents want to speak it in the home, but they need to teach their kids the English language for school. If I moved to Mexico, I would make sure I know the language first.

I have a friend who teaches third grade. She had one student who couldn’t speak English and she can’t speak Spanish. How is she supposed to teach her?
