Okay so I woke up …
Okay so I woke up being able to the other day after months of wanting to, all I did to start being able to, is I had my teeth together with my tongue relaxed, then blew out slightly hard, you have to have the air flowing over your tongue though not just out of your teeth, as long as your tongue is relaxed and your channeling the air past your tongue it should do it, once your able to do that you should be able to do it with your teeth apart soon, and even be able to tune it to sound better.

- say brrrr with thrilled lips. RELAX your lips, otherwise you will fail at this point!;
- move the tongue upwards so it points above the upper teeth and touching the area there. Also RELAX your tongue. If you don’t you completely block yourself;
- move the lips from each other. There you have your rolling r.

I (Dutch) have a uvular r. I learned the rolled r when I was 14 years old. My rolled r improved when I was 38 years old because I got rid of a tongue tie which made rolling more difficult. Now I use the rolled r in sung (not spoken) Dutch, sung German, in both sung and spoken Esperanto, Russian, etc. but not ever in French.

I can do the single ‘r’ sound in Spanish, it’s just the trill that I can’t master. This video doesn’t really help a lot unless you already kind of know how to do it. I’ve never succeeded in creating the rolling ‘rr’ sound in my life. I’d like to know where my tongue is supposed to go, and how it’s supposed to feel to a beginner. How long does it take for my tongue to ‘loosen up’ and start making the sound? Maybe I just need some diagrams and someone who understands my problem.
